Muscle Relaxant & Anti-wrinkle Injection in Sydney

Anti-wrinkle Injections:

Anti-wrinkle injections are extraordinarily popular because treatment is safe and effective, takes just a few minutes and eliminates frown lines, worry lines and crow’s feet around the eyes with virtually no downtime.

What is an anti-wrinkle injection?

Anti-wrinkle injectionsi are made from a natural, purified protein extracted from a bacteria, in much the same way that penicillin’s extracted from a fungus. When injected into specific, wrinkle-causing facial muscles the injections relax wrinkling to create a younger, smoother, but still natural-looking appearance.

Australian law prohibits publication of brand names of common anti-wrinkle injections in a public forum.  Call Us if you’d like to know.

How do anti-wrinkle injections work?

Anti-wrinkle injections temporarily block the chemical messengers that activate certain muscles. This effect is limited to the area being treated and works on only targeted muscles. Anti-wrinkle injections work best on wrinkles caused by movement, known as dynamic wrinkles, such as frown lines, worry lines and crow’s feet around the eyes.

What are anti-wrinkle injections commonly used for?

Anti-wrinkle injections are most commonly used for treatment of crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines, but can also create an eyebrow lift, stop the corners of the mouth from pulling down, reduce gummy smiles by lowering the upper lip and soften scrawny looking tendons in the neck. They also reduce muscle bulk at the corner of the jaw to refine and slim jaw lines, help teeth grinding (bruxism) and are the gold standard for treating underarm sweating.

Prior to their adaptation for cosmetic use, muscle relaxant injections were used for many years to treat conditions such as twitching or spasm of the eyelid, facial spasm, muscle spasticity due to cerebral palsy and eye squints. Their application to additional medical conditions is expanding continually.

Cost?

From $10 per unit. Exact cost will depend on the correction required.

Many people prefer to retain some movement and “character,” and so opt for softening of wrinkles, at lower cost, rather than complete eradication.

We offer a Loyalty Rewards Programme that gives you a 15% discount off every 5th treatment. This programme includes both muscle relaxant and dermal filler treatments. We also use a sliding scale of charges, which means the more units you need, the more affordable your treatment becomes.

What does treatment for wrinkles involve?

  • A doctor  will  initially review your medial history to confirm your suitability and discuss your concerns. With your permission we will photograph the area/s to be treated and will use these photos to monitor your progress.
  • Tiny injections of muscle relaxant solution are precisely injected into the muscles causing your wrinkles. Treatment is usually well tolerated and feels like a series of quick stings. Ice, anaesthetic cream and/or laughing gas are available if required to minimize discomfort.
  • Treatment takes just a few minutes.
  • Results are not instant but usually begin to appear after 2-3 days and may take up to two weeks for maximum effect. Results can be as subtle or dramatic as you prefer. Because anti-wrinkle injections target only specific muscles, most facial expressions will not be affected.
  • We like to see you again in 2-3 weeks to assess your result and to perform any minor adjustments if needed.
  • Males usually require larger doses than females – sometimes up to double the amount.

How long do results last?

Initial treatments will last 3-5 months on average. Recent research suggests results may persist for up to six months after repeated treatments. As muscle action gradually returns, lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and will eventually return to their previous state without further treatment. Your practitioner will recommend when to schedule your next treatment.

Is treatment painful?

  • Anti-wrinkle injections are administered using a very fine needle and a very small amount of liquid. Many people say they feel like a mosquito bite. Ice, anaesthetic cream and/or laughing gas are available if required to minimize discomfort.

Is there any downtime?

Normal activities may be resumed after treatment. Makeup can be reapplied immediately.

Experience counts. During 2011, Heber Davis performed over 2200 muscle relaxant treatments. Temporary weakness of an upper lid is a recognised risk of muscle relaxant treatment of the upper face. The worldwide incidence of this side effect is 3.2%. At Heber Davis the incidence in 2011 was 0.0005%, due almost entirely to the experience of our practitioners.

Is there anyone who should not be injected with muscle relaxants?

Patients who are pregnant, planning to fall pregnant, breastfeeding or have certain muscle or nerve disorders are not be suitable for muscle relaxant injections.

Are wrinkle injections safe?

Anti wrinkle injections have been used in medicine for more than 30 years, in millions of people around the world. They are regularly used in children with muscular palsy from the age of 2 onwards.

Anti-wrinkles injections are one of the most studied and researched procedures and have no long-term side effects. The active ingredient is not absorbed or passed through the blood and is no longer present or active in the body an hour after injection.

The history of muscle relaxant anti wrinkle injections.

Muscle relaxant proteins were first researched in the late 1960s to treat neurological disorders. This purified protein was first approved by the FDA in 1989 to treat eye muscle disorders (blepharospasm, uncontrollable blinking, and strabismus, crossed eyes). In 2000, it was approved to treat cervical dystonia (a disorder that causes severe neck and shoulder contractions). As an unusual side effect of the eye disorder treatment, doctors observed that muscle relaxants softened the frown lines between the eyebrows. That fortunate discovery awakened cosmetic doctors to its potential as an anti-aging treatment.
