What are dermal fillers?
Heber Davis specialises in the injection of “natural” dermal fillers.[1] These are made of hyaluronic, a smooth gel that’s identical to the padding that occurs naturally in our skin. As skin ages, hyaluronic gradually breaks down, resulting in skin sag, wrinkles and a loss of volume. Dermal fillers simply replace what has been lost, naturally and instantly, leaving you looking smoother and refreshed and more attractive.
Because these dermal fillers are natural gels, they are biocompatible, non permanent, rarely cause reactions and can be easily dissolved if required.
How do dermal fillers treat wrinkles?
Dermal fillers erase lines and wrinkles simply by replacing the hyaluronic that age, stress, smoking, poor diet, etc has worn away. Microinjections of a specially soft, pliant dermal filler, placed superficially in the skin, gently lifts and fills fine lines and wrinkles, invisibly and instantly blending them with the surrounding skin in just a few minutes and with little or no downtime.
An important bonus is that dermal fillers actually prevent your lines and wrinkles from becoming any deeper. Whilst your dermal filler is in place, all the stresses and strains that caused your wrinkles in the first place, wear out your dermal filler, sparing your wrinkle and preventing it from deepening.
Dermal fillers are the treatment of choice for those with fine lines and wrinkles that are present at rest, that is, those that are there when you look in the mirror without making any facial expressions. Lines and wrinkles that respond well include lip lines or “smoker’s lines” , those vertical lines running into the lip that allow lipstick to “bleed”, lines across the cheeks, lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth and fine lines around the eyes and on the forehead. Subtle reduction in facial lines contributes to an overall impression of youth and vitality.
In some areas dermal fillers are often used in conjunction with muscle relaxants for better and longer lasting results.
What does treatment involve?
We will review your medial history, discuss your concerns, answer all your questions and then decide on the best treatment plan for you.
- Before and after photos of other patients’ outcomes can be viewed to give you a realistic expectation of your own result.
- We will take before photos of you and will use these to monitor your progress over time. Your photos will not, of course, be shown to other patients.
- Because your comfort is important, ice, anaesthetic creams and laughing gas are available if needed throughout the procedure.
- Treatment is completed in just a few minutes.
How do I prepare for my treatment?

Does it hurt?
Dermal fillers come premixed with small amounts of local anaesthetic for your comfort. Because of this, most patients find treatment surprisingly comfortable and require no additional anaesthesia. However, for those who are sensitive, anaesthetic cream and/or laughing gas are also available.
How soon will I see results?
Immediately.
How long will my result last?
Depending on the type of filler used and where it’s placed, 4-12 months. Fillers placed around the mouth, which are therefore exposed to lots of movement, tend to break down quicker than those placed in more stationary areas of the face.
How do I look after treatment?
Most normal activities may be resumed immediately. Makeup may be applied as desired. Because some patients may experience temporary redness, swelling or bruising, treatments should not be scheduled just before an important event.
What precautions should I take after treatment?
Until any initial swelling and redness has resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. sauna or sunbathing) or extreme cold.
What are the risks?
As with any treatment that punctures the skin, dermal filler treatments carry some risk of temporary redness, swelling or bruising. Treatment should not be performed just before an important event.
What is the cost?
From $360, but will depend on area/s to be treated and type of filler required.
Heber Davis offers various filler specials each month as well as a regular selection of affordable filler packages.
We also offer a Loyalty Rewards Programme that gives you 15% off every fifth injectable treatment (includes both dermal fillers and muscle relaxant treatments).
Are dermal fillers safe?
The fillers used at Heber Davis are made of natural substances that are present in the skin. Hence they are composed of natural gels, they are biocompatible, non permanent, rarely cause reactions and can be easily dissolved if required. They have been used successfully and safely for decades.
What about Permanent fillers?
Permanent fillers have been associated with increased risk of serious complications such as infection, granuloma formation (permanent lump formation that can occur even years after administration), and incorrect placement. Permanent fillers cannot adapt to the inevitable changes that occur in our faces as we age. What looks good at 30 could well become a source of embarrassment at 50. For these reasons, we do not recommend permanent fillers for our patients.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t undergo dermal filler treatment?
Dermal fillers are not recommended for those who are allergic to hyaluronic products, who have inflammation or infection in the area to be treated, have any disease affecting the immune system, who are prone to keloid or hypertrophic scarring or who have permanent filler in the area to be treated. Chemical or laser peeling is best avoided for 2-3 months before and after dermal filling treatment. Please let us know if you are allergic to local anaesthetics.
Can dermal fillers be combined with anti-wrinkle injections?
Yes. Dermal fillers fill wrinkles, while anti-wrinkle injections relax the facial movements that cause them. Because fillers and relaxants work differently, they are commonly used together for an enhanced result.
