Vitamin Skin Infusions Sydney
Application of Ultrasound waves at 20KHz (20,000 cycles per second) has been shown to increase penetration of cosmetic ingredients up to several thousand fold. The frequencies of Ultrasound used in medical treatments are largely ineffective for this purpose.
One of the main functions of the skin is to protect us from the environment. The skin is very effective at providing a barrier to the entry of external compounds. This barrier is provided mainly through lipids (oils) in between cells in the surface layer of the skin, the stratum corneum. Lipids are impermeable to compounds containing molecular charges. Think of how water and oil do not mix. In many cases only a fraction of the ingredients we apply to the skin in cosmetics eventually enters the skin. Part of the art of formulating active skin care products, is including technology within the product to enhance penetration. However, penetration rates approaching that provided by low frequency sonophoresis cannot be achieved by penetration enhancers in the average skin care product.
Low frequency sonophoresis at 20KHz can be used to increase the penetration of Vitamins C and A as a stand-alone treatment or to enhance the effects of our facial treatments such as light peels and microdermabrasions. Application of these vitamins will lighten abnormal skin discolouration and plump up the dermal layer of the skin with new collagen and ground substance to fill out and tighten wrinkles and firm the skin.
As the frequency of 20KHz is just above the top of the range hearing occasionally a soft high pitched sound can be experienced during the treatment. The only other sensation is that of warmth. Vitamin infusions are performed by our specialised nurses and take about 30 minutes. See a vitamin infusion treatment >> Makeup can be worn immediately and normal activities resumed.
Very occasionally, dryness or irritation may occur due to the high penetration of active ingredients achieved by this treatment. These symptoms will settle spontaneously over a few days with application of a bland moisturiser. Resolution may be accelerated by application of a mild hydrocortisone ointment, such as Dermaid (available over the counter in pharmacy). There is also a small risk of product entering the eye during the treatment which may result in initial stinging and redness.
Please let us know if you are particularly sensitive to very active skin care products and we will modify your treatment accordingly.
