Fractional Laser Skin Rejuvenation, Broadway, Sydney
Fractional laser treatment represents an exciting new approach to skin rejuvenation that uses laser energy to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process to grow new collagen. It delivers improvements in skin texture and tone, acne scarring, irregular pigmentation, wrinkling and other signs of skin ageing, but without the significant downtime associated with more aggressive alternatives. All fractional laser treatments at Heber Davis are performed by our qualified doctors.
Unlike older resurfacing treatments that removed the entire surface of the skin at once, the fractional laser treats only a "fraction" of the skin at a time, creating multiple narrow treated channels surrounded by unaffected, healthy tissue. This “fractional” treatment maximises safety, speeds recovery and reduces downtime.
The fractional laser passes through the top layer of skin to deliver energy to the dermis below. The effect creates thousands of tiny microscopic channels of thermal damage that stimulate the body’s own wound healing response - particularly promoting new collagen production that plumps up the skin and helps smooth out wrinkles, lines and scars. The depth and density of these channels can be precisely adjusted to customise treatment for each patient.

- Improves texture, tone and pore size
- Erases unwanted brown spots
- Improves wrinkles around the eyes
- Improves acne scarring
- Rejuvenates neck, chest and hands
- Minimal downtime
Improvements in colour and texture are apparent after the initial treatment. Collagen remodeling of wrinkles and scars continues for many months. Though individual responses vary depending upon the condition being treated, most patients see optimum results after 2-5 treatments spaced at 2-3 monthly intervals. Fractional laser can be combined with other skin rejuvenation treatments, such as MicroLaserPeeling, for enhanced results.
Following treatment, you could experience any or all of the following effects
- Swelling, redness, pinpoint bleeding, bruising, temporary darkening of pigmentation, discomfort and “patterning” of the skin. These effects are temporary, self limiting and do not require treatment.
You will be shown photos of these potential effects prior to your treatment. Healing time varies depending on the condition being treated, but most patients prefer to take 1-3 days to rest and recover from their treatment.
Complications are infrequent but, as with any laser treatment, potentially include infection (bacterial, fungal or viral), eye injury, scarring, thinning of the skin (atrophy), prolonged bleeding, bruising, discomfort and/or pigmentary changes (increase or decrease in pigment), "patterning" and demarcation between treated and untreated areas.
Some lesions do not respond as well as expected and limited improvement may be achieved.
Yes. Those who are pregnant, have active cold sores in the area to be treated on the day of treatment, have suspicious moles or lesions, have used certain oral acne medications within the last 12 months or have vitiligo. Optimum results depend upon your body’s capacity to manufacture new collagen. Smokers should be aware that smoking compromises this ability. Therefore results may fall short of those achieved by non smokers.
Please inform us if you have a history of cold sores (anti viral medication may need to be prescribed for you), are taking anticoagulants to thin the blood, have a history of keloid or abnormal scarring, are an uncontrolled diabetic in whom healing may be compromised, are immune suppressed or have a connective tissue disease.
Other forms of skin rejuvenation include chemical peeling, dermabrasion and surgery. Each involves its own set of potential risks and complications.
(This patient has had a combination of Fractional Laser Resurfacing and Erbium laser peeling.)
