Skin tightening  is a popular  treatment for firming and tightening loose sagging skin.   Various heat sources, including infra red and radiofrequency,  are used to drive heat energy to the underside of the skin to cause collagen to contract and tighten. Collagen contraction in turn results in tightening and firming of the overlying skin and in visible reduction in skin laxity.  Skin tightening  can be performed on any area of the body where an improvement in skin firmness is desired. Most responsive areas are the jaw line, under the chin, the neck, lower face, around the eyes and the lower abdomen.

Unlike some skin tightening treatments, the procedure at Heber Davis, known as SkinTyte,  is safe and comfortable. We use a continuous motion technique that distributes heat evenly across an area without excessive buildup. Importantly, treatments are very affordable relative to comparable technologies such as Thermage because no expensive disposible equipment is required.

What does Skin Tyte treatment involve?

SkinTyte is a non-invasive treatment in which pulses of infrared light energy are directed to the area to be treated. The aim is to raise the temperature of the skin to just over 40oC and to maintain it at this temperature for 3-4 minutes. A skin thermometer is used throughout the procedure to ensure therapeutic levels of heat are achieved and maintained. Each session takes about 45mins and 3-5 sessions at monthly intervals usually achieve visible results. Depending upon your skin type and quality, we may recommend that you alternate your Skin Tyte treatments with other complexion refining procedures such as broadband light.

SkinTyte treatments are experienced as comfortable warmth, but with spikes of higher temperatures. No pain relief is usually required, though topical anaesthetic cream and/or laughing gas are available as required.

Am I a candidate for SkinTyte?

Best candidates are non-obese, with visible loose skin, aged between 30 and 70, who either don’t need or don’t want surgery, have realistic expectations and who can tolerate the sensation of heat. It’s not a substitute for surgery, but is for those who want to slow the aging process and delay the time when they’ll need surgery. SkinTyte is safe for most skin types and for tanned skin. SkinTyte results vary from person to person depending upon the quality of their collagen and its capacity to respond. We will assess your skin at your initial consultation and give you a realistic and honest opinion about your suitability for this treatment.

What do I look like after treatment?

SkinTyte usually involves no downtime or aftercare. Temporary redness or swelling may occur. These side effects usually settle over a few hours, though recovery times can vary depending upon your skin’s type and condition, the area of your body treated and the settings used. Most patients do not need to take time away from their usual commitments. However, since some patients may experience more persistent redness or swelling than others it is recommended that as a precaution you allow a few quiet days to rest after your first session.

What results can I expect?

Most data suggests that optimal results are obtained after 3-5 sessions spaced at monthly intervals.  See Video   Overseas studies show that 80% of patients achieve subtle but visible firming within 3 treatments. Since visible improvements in skin laxity are dependent on collagen remodeling which takes time, results accrue gradually over a number of months. Maximum results may not become apparent for 3-6 months or beyond. Since aging is a progressive process annual maintenance treatments may be required to retain optimum skin condition.

Are there any side effects/complications?

Though SkinTyte is non-invasive and well tolerated, any laser treatment carries potential risks of redness, swelling, bruising, blisters, scabs, scars, pigment changes, infection (bacterial, fungal or viral) and eye injury. Some areas may not respond as well as expected and limited improvement may sometimes be achieved. 5-10% of candidates do not respond for as yet unknown reasons.

Is there anyone who is not suitable for this treatment?

Yes. Those who are pregnant, have connective tissue disorders, are prone to keloid scarring, have blood disorders that result in excessive bruising, have active cold sores, other infections or acne in the area to be treated on the day of treatment,  have very dark skin, have insulin dependent diabetes, have used Roaccutane within the last 12 months, have vitiligo,or are prone to abnormal pigmentation.

Precautions:

Please inform us if you have a history of cold sores. Anti viral medication may need to be prescribed for you.

Alternative treatments:

Skin Tyte delivers subtle skin tightening effects and is not an alternative for treatment of excessively loose skin or excessive facial bagginess or puffiness. Other forms of skin rejuvenation include chemical peeling, dermabrasion and surgery. Each involves its own set of potential risks and complications.
